Researched the problem and it appears chevy is replacing the instrument cluster for this problem on up to 2004 vehicles but not 2005 although it appears the problem is rampant among Avalanche owners. The dealer told that the contact the vehicle was not included in any recalls and therefore, he would have to assume all repair costs. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer but no repairs were made when the complaint was filed. If using PayPal or their Credit Card services, please include a copy of the transaction receipt. They pull off by pulling straight up. All the other gauges are working well.
Step 3 The only thing holding the circuit board at this point are the gauge needles. Any help is greatly apreciated. Your instrument cluster has gone bad, to pinpoint. The gauge will read faster then what I am drive. You might have to do all of them or only half like me. Annoying to put back on, too. Please no water or flood damaged units. I wiggled and twisted it after I got the three clips loose and it took patience and tested my tranquility.
This is obviously a problem gm has known about and will not address. The clips were fairly easy, but it was a pain getting the display loose from the white peg. Tried to post this as a new instructable but that keeps crashing. The current and failure mileages were 55,582. The contact stated that the speedometer does not work correctly and the instrument panel is not in english. The current mileage was 55,434.
You can see the three pins and a white peg next to the pin on the left. As you can see by my terrible job it does not need to be pretty to work. It is located behind the glove box. I'm not certain it would have caused a problem if I had broken or clipped it off, but I was careful and it's still there. It is held in place by nine 9 pins and three white clips.
The repair requires removing the instrument cluster assembly, disassembling the cluster and replacing devices called stepper motors that drives each gauge. It comes back with no issues when scanned. It may not move at all or it may tell me I am going 120 mph. Remove the black panel on the back by loosening the clips. I fix clusters and computers.
All the other gauges on the cluster were working properly. It was, doubtless, the pin you said, though I soldered the next pin, too. I have replaced the battery, alternator and both tension pullies but no luck. Take the battery loose or disconnect the bell. You don't mention taking the battery cable loose. Many other owners of this same vehicle have had the same complaint and its rare that it functions properly in any of the vehicles.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter, regards, mr. We rebuild the entire unit, replacing all of the gauge stepper motors and illumination lamps, and send it back better than new. Do you know what a automotive communication network is? Pretty simple at this point, just unclip at various points and the plastic front cover will come off as well as the back black cover. No one can tell me exactly what the problem is and I don't want to waste money trying to figure it out. Fred did a tremendous job. For verified failures between 70,001 miles 110,001 km and 80,000 miles 130,000 km on U. Received it on Wednesday and within 10 minutes it was installed and worked perfectly.
The failure mileage was approximately 54,800. The repairs will be made at no charge to the customer.
